No information is available on the relationship of age to the effects of orlistat in geriatric patients.

Contraindications

Except under special circumstances, this medication should not be used when the following medical problems exist:

Chronic malabsorption, Cholestasis

Risk-benefit should be considered when the following medical problems exist:

Anorexia nervosa, Bulimia ,History of hyperoxaluria or calcium oxalate nephrolithiasis, Sensitivity to orlistat

Drug interactions

Fat-soluble vitamins and analogues, Pravastatin, Cyclosporine, Warfarin

Usual adult dose

Obesity management-

Oral, 120 mg three times a day, with each fat-containing meal.The dose should be taken during fat-containing meals or up to 1 hour after the meal.

Usual adult prescribing limits

360 mg a day.

Those indicating need for medical attention

Incidence more frequent:

Influenza-like symptoms, upper respiratory tract infection

Incidence less frequent:

Lower respiratory tract infection, tooth or gingival disorder

Incidence rare:

infectious diarrhea, otitis, urinary tract infection

Those indicating need for medical attention only if they continue or are bothersome

Incidence more frequent:

Abdominal pain; gastrointestinal symptoms, including; fatty/oily stool; fecal incontinence; fecal urgency; flatus with discharge; increased defecation; oily evacuation; oily spotting; headache

Incidence less frequent:

Anxiety; back pain; menstrual irregularities; rectal pain or discomfort

Incidence rare:

Arthritis; dizziness; dryness of skin; fatigue; insomnia; myalgia;  nausea; skin rash; vomiting

Store below 30 °C (86 °F). Protect from light, moisture,keep the medicine in the box.
