Hypertension, Hypertension with left ventricular hypertrophy, Nephropathy diabetic.

Contraindication & Drug interaction
Contraindications
Except under special circumstances, this medication should not be used when the following medical problem exists:
Hypersensitivity to losartan or any component of the product.
Risk-benefit should be considered when the following medical problems exist
Hepatic function impairment, Renal artery stenosis, bilateral or in a solitary kidney, Renal function impairment, moderate to severe.
Drug Interactions
Anti-inflammatory drugs, nonsteroidal (NSAIDs), especially indomethacin, Blood from blood bank, Cyclosporine, Diuretics, potassium-sparing ,Low-salt milk, Potassium-containing medications, Potassium supplements, substances containing high concentrations of potassium, Salt substitutes, Diuretics, Fluconazole, Hypotension-producing medications other, Sympathomimetics,
Usual Adult Dose
Antihypertensive-
Initial- Oral, 50 mg once a day.
Note: in patients with possible volume depletion and patients with history of hepatic function impairment an initial dose of 25 mg once a day is recommended.
Maintenance- Oral, 25 to 100 mg a day. Does may be given once a day or divided into two doses.
Note: If adequate blood pressure control is not achieved by losartan alone, a low dose of a diuretic may be added for an additive effect.
Hypertension with left ventricular hypertrophy(treatment) - Oral usal starting dose 50 mg once daily Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg once daily should be added and/or losartan dose should not be increased to 100 mg once daily followed by an increase in Hydrochlorothiazide to 25 mg once based pressure response.
Hypertrophy, diabetic(treatment)- Oral usual starting dose 50 mg once daily Dose should be increased to 100mg once daily based on blood pressure response.
Note: Losartan may be administered with insulin and other commonly used hypoglycemic agents( e.g. sulfonylureas, glitazones and glucosidase inhibitors.
Usual Pediatric Dose
Antihypertensive- Children younger than 6 years of age - Safety and efficacy have not been established.
Children 6 years of age and older - Oral initial dose of 0.7 mg per kg of body weight per day up to 50 mg per day.
Note: Losartan should not be administered to pediatric patients with creatinine clearance

Angioedema, hepatitis, hyperkalemia, hyponatremia, rhabdomyolysis, thrombocytopenia, vasculitis including, Henoch- Schonlein purpura
